Establishment of a Cell Suspension Culture of Eysenhardtia platycarpa: Phytochemical Screening of Extracts and Evaluation of Antifungal Activity

Eysenhardtia platycarpa (Fabaceae) is a medicinal plant used in Mexico. Biotechnological studies of its use are lacking. The objective this work was to establish cell suspension culture (CSC) E. platycarpa, determine the phytochemical constituents by spectrophotometric and gas chromatography‒mass spectrometry (GC‒MS) methods, evaluate antifungal activity, compare them with intact plant. Friable callus CSC were established 2 mg/L 1-naphthaleneacetic acid plus 0.1 kinetin. highest total phenolics 15.6 mg gallic equivalents (GAE)/g dry weight flavonoids content ranged from 56.2 104.1 µg quercetin (QE)/g weight. GC‒MS analysis showed that dichloromethane extracts CSC, sapwood, heartwood have high amount hexadecanoic (22.3–35.3%) steroids (13.5–14.7%). Heartwood sapwood defatted hexane stigmasterol (~23.4%) β-sitosterol (~43%), leaf presented β-amyrin (16.3%). Methanolic mostly sugars some polyols, mainly D-pinitol (74.3%). Compared plant, fatty exhibited percentages inhibition higher for Sclerotium cepivorum: 71.5% 62.0%, respectively. maximum Rhizoctonia solani (51.4%). Our study suggests could be as possible complementary alternative synthetic fungicides.
